Monday July 22nd Game Design 1

Children attending all can, but are not required to, complete the requirements for the Scouting America Game Design Merit Badge

Game Design 1 Schedule

10:00 - Children are picked up from ball fields playground in Monticello, ​UT, driven to the forest, on the drive, they enjoy a meditation practice ​to release stress

10:30 - Arrive at Walter C. Lyman Park - play get to know you games

10:45 - Play games and discuss different reasons that people play ​games.

11:15 - In groups or individually, design a game using provided ​materials or elements from the forest. As created games are ready, ​teams or individuals will test others games they invented.

11:30 - Review with the game coaches what needs improved in the ​game, and make revisions

11:45 - Test personalized games and improve them. Students will also ​be free to just play in the forest.

11:30 - LUNCH BREAK (Bring your own)

12:00 - Play games: Learn about how games are created and discuss ​game design terms. Play and analyze 4 games & make a chart to ​compare and contrast the games.

1:30 - SNACK BREAK (Provided)

2:15 - Drive to Drop Off location

2:30 - Pick up at Blanding Visitor's Center Playground

3:00 - Pick up at ball fields playground in Monticello

Tuesday July 23rd Art 1
Forest path, forest path, forest, forest, walking path,

If desired, children attending can complete the requirements for the scouting America

Art Merit Badge

Art 1 Schedule

10:00 - Children are picked up from the local art display at the ​Monticello Visitor's Center, and view the art there. Then they are ​driven to the forest, on the drive, they enjoy a meditation practice to ​release stress

11:00 - Arrive at Walter C. Lyman Park - several stations are set up for ​them to choose from:

  • Needle basket making
  • Flower crowns
  • Students will also be free to just play in the forest


11:45 - Find natural colors in the forest and make pastels

12:00 - LUNCH BREAK (Bring your own)

12:30 - Create art with pastels

1:15 - SNACK BREAK (Provided)

1:30 - Create art with water color

2:15 - Drive to pick up location

2:30 - Pick up at Cedar Mesa Pottery in Blanding

3:00 - Pick up at ball fields playground in Monticello

Wilderness Survival Merit Badge

$30 additional cost to make and keep a personal survival kit

Forest Survivor 1 Schedule

10:00 - Children are picked up from ball fields playground in Monticello, ​UT, driven to the forest, on the drive, they enjoy a meditation practice ​to release stress

10:30 - Arrive at Walter C. Lyman Park - several stations are set up for ​them to choose from:

  • Memory game of priorities for survival
  • Put together a personal survival kit
  • Students will also be free to just play in the forest


11:45 - Learn about the hazards you are most likely to encounter while ​participating in wilderness survival activities & fire safety

12:00 - LUNCH BREAK (Bring your own)

12:30 - Using three different methods (other than matches), build and ​light 1-2 fires

1:15 - SNACK BREAK (Provided)

1:30 - Mock rescue practicing acting out the first aid for hypothermia, ​heat reactions, frostbite, dehydration, blisters, insect stings, tick bites, ​and snakebites

2:15 - Drive to Drop Off location

2:30 - Pick up at Blanding Visitor's Center Playground

3:00 - Pick up at ball fields playground in Monticello

  • Learn how to use a signal mirror
  • Put together a personal survival kit
  • Students will also be free to just play in the forest


11:45 - Learn about the hazards you are most likely to encounter while ​participating in wilderness survival activities & fire safety

12:00 - LUNCH BREAK (Bring your own)

12:30 - Build a natural shelter that someone could sleep in overnight

1:15 - SNACK BREAK (Provided)

1:30 - Using three different methods (other than matches), build and ​light 1-2 fires

10:00 - Children are picked up from ball fields playground in Monticello, ​UT, driven to the forest, on the drive, they enjoy a meditation practice ​to release stress

10:30 - Arrive at Walter C. Lyman Park - several stations are set up for ​them to choose from:

  • Learn first aid for the types of injuries that could occur while ​treasure hunting
  • Design a treasure hunt map
  • Students will also be free to just play in the forest


11:45 - Teams hide treasures according to the maps

12:00 - LUNCH BREAK (Bring your own)

12:30 - Hike to find treasure following a map and using a compass

1:15 - SNACK BREAK (Provided)

1:30 - 2nd Hike to find the other team’s hidden treasure

10:30 - Arrive at Walter C. Lyman Park, then driven to various ​geocaches throughout the local area. On the drive, they enjoy a ​meditation practice to release stress. They will hike around to various ​geocaches.

12:00 - LUNCH BREAK (Bring your own)

12:30 - Hide a geocache for others to find

1:15 - SNACK BREAK (Provided)

1:30 - Travel to and hike to various geocaches throughout the local area

2:15 - Drive to Drop Off location

3:00 - Pick up at ball fields playground in Monticello

  • Partner with a buddy to build a simple robot for ages 5+

  • Students will also be free to just play in the forest
